Credentials Licensed Architect (CA), AIA, USGBC
Daniel Barker, AIA, LEED AP
Managing PrincipalAs Managing Principal, Daniel guides the studio with a primary focus on design, sustainability, and material construction. Holding licenses as both a California Architect and a General Building Contractor, he bridges the critical gap between architectural intent and physical execution.
Informed by early hands-on experience in framing and construction, Daniel brings a deeply practical perspective to the firm's work, directing building information modeling (BIM) and overseeing projects seamlessly from schematic design through post-occupancy.

We design from place. Every project begins with a rigorous reading of its site—topography, climate, existing conditions, and local context. As stewards of the land, our focus is deeply rooted in sustainability, and our designs reflect that responsibility. We prioritize site-responsive materiality and spatial organization, knowing that buildings crafted to endure are inherently sustainable.
Good design unifies a building and its occupants with their environment. This happens through deliberate choices: how light moves through a space, how materials reveal their origins and performance, how views frame the landscape, how spatial sequences organize discovery and movement. We design buildings where occupants understand their relationship to place—not through description, but through direct experience.
This ethos is grounded by our deep knowledge of construction. By treating constraints as generative, we test design assumptions against material reality—ensuring our visions translate seamlessly into buildable, enduring architecture.
01. Discovery, Collaboration and Vision
Encompassing the Schematic Design phase, every project begins by listening—to the client and the site. We work closely to establish a shared vision, conducting a rigorous reading of the local context, climate, and topography to create a foundational design layout that is rooted in place and inherently sustainable.
02. Refinement and Rigor
As we progress through Design Development, we refine the architecture's experiential qualities with precision. Deliberate choices are made regarding site-responsive materiality, natural light, and spatial sequences that frame the landscape and heighten environmental awareness.
03. Execution and Documentation
During the Construction Documents and Administration phases, we translate the shared vision into a buildable reality. Grounded in our deep knowledge of construction, we detail the project with a strict focus on material performance and constructability, resolving complexities early to ensure the final structure is precise, enduring, and built to last.
We believe there are no correct or inherently better architectural styles. Each style serves as a distinct vocabulary that can be utilized to achieve specific design objectives. Historically, architectural styles evolved regionally in direct response to local environmental factors, climatic conditions, and available materials.
We see immense value in understanding the historical reasoning behind these architectural traditions. By studying these regional adaptations, we thoughtfully implement vernacular cues and time-tested methods when appropriate, ensuring our designs feel native to their environment and deeply connected to their context.
